Pickerington, OH (March 28, 2022) — The AMA Flat Track Grand Championship (FTGC)—the country’s most prestigious amateur flat track event—will return July 7-13 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Illinois, with AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and beloved On Any Sunday star David Aldana as the event’s Grand Marshal.
The FTGC, promoted and operated by the American Motorcyclist Association, has been the premier amateur flat track event since the mid-1970s. This year’s event will boast modified class structures, new race and entertainment schedules, and a whole week of bar-banging action on Short Track, TT, Mile and Half-Mile tracks.
Along with being the championship’s Grand Marshal, Aldana plans to strap on his own steel shoe and race the DuQuoin Mile.
“I haven’t raced a Mile since the On Any Sunday days,” Aldana, who still races regularly at 72 years of age, said, “and I look forward to seeing what I’ve got after so many years. I’m honored to be the Grand Marshal for the AMA Flat Track Grand Championship, and it’ll be great to be among so many racers and fans who love flat track racing as much as I do.”
AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant said that Aldana will bring a legendary presence to the event for AMA amateur racers of all ages: “Racers, young and old alike, remember Aldana for his flat track racing in the beloved moto-documentary, and we look forward to having him out there racing the Mile and hanging around the paddock throughout the AMA Flat Track Grand Championship this July.”
