Monster Energy Supercross returns to the Emerald City for round 12 of the season. We are back racing with the 250SX West Coast riders, while the 450SX racers continue their stride. The weather held off and made for great conditions all night. At the checkers, it was Eli Tomac and Hunter Lawrence claiming their respective victories.
450SX
With great racing in the early heat races, the 450SX main event was set to be one for the books. However, once Eli Tomac took the holeshot he was a force to be reckoned with. He went on to lead wire to wire in an uncontested 26 laps. Tomac lapped up to seventh place in the process and further extended his points lead over Jason Anderson. This win is his fifth in a row and ties him with Chad Reed for fourth on the all-time wins list.
Justin Barcia looked to be a challenge for Tomac in the early stages of the main event. Barcia stayed close for the first few laps but dropped back a bit as Tomac pushed the pace. Just after the half-way mark, Barcia hit the deck in the big over-table rhythm section and dropped down off the podium. He battled with Cooper Webb for the rest of the main event but held off the defending champion for fifth place at the line.
The beneficiaries of Barcia’s crash were Jason Anderson and Marvin Musquin. Anderson was already in podium contention but bumped up to second, while Musquin was in the right place at the right time. The KTM rider grabbed the final spot on the podium. Both riders rode a close but quiet race and finished two seconds apart.
Malcolm Stewart came home fourth. He posted the fastest qualifying time earlier in the day and looked fast in his heat race. Stewart got jammed up at the start of the main event and couldn’t close in on the leaders in time. He was a solid fourth at the line.
Cooper Webb got off to a poor start and looked to be struggling all day. He is back at the Bakers Factory but is nursing injuries after his collision with Chase Sexton. Webb started slow but worked his way up behind Barcia. The two battled all the way to the finish, with Webb taking sixth.

250SX
The 250SX main event kicked off with the usual suspects up front, Christian Craig, Michael Mosiman, Jo Shimoda, and Hunter Lawrence controlling the lead pack. Craig held strong for the opening few laps with Mosiman staying close behind.
At the end of lap three, Mosiman made a daring pass on Craig just before the finish line. The pass was aggressive and the contact put Craig in the dirt. Mosiman led the lap while Craig dropped to sixth. Mosiman mentioned after the race that the pass bent his rotor and lost the ability to use his rear brake.
Mosiman stayed up front for the next five laps with Lawrence stalking in second. The Honda rider was able to male the pass stick in the slow-speed option line. Once Lawrence took the lead he never relinquished.
With Lawrence leading, Craig was working his way back through the field. For most of the race he turned faster laps than the two leaders and continued to close in. He was never able to get close enough and at the end of the race the gap between Lawrence and Craig was only 1.4 seconds.

QUALIFYING
The Monster Energy Supercross series heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for round 12 in Seattle, Washington. Racing in the 250SX West division resumes today with Christian Craig being the points leader in that class. In 450SX, Justin Brayton, Dylan Ferrandis, and Shane Mcelrath will all miss tonight’s race due to injuries. The weather is holding up for the time being, so let’s dive into the qualifying action.
Definitely some drama in the final 450 qualifying session. Cooper Webb found himself in the dirt early but soldiered on. Jason Anderson and Chase Sexton found each other on the track a few times but eventually were able to get in some clean laps. Sexton ended up having a huge get off with what seemed to be a mis-shift on the triple onto table rhythm. He fell hard but got back up and on the bike. *Update – Chase Sexton will not be lining up for the night show after his crash in qualifying.
Malcolm Stewart ended up posting the fastest lap of the 450’s with a 47.915. Marvin Musquin and Eli Tomac were second and third, just 0.002 apart.

250SX
250 qualifying looked like a real race with all the bumping and banging off the start. Michael Mosiman topped the 250 class with his time of 47.815, the only 250 rider to get into the 47 second range. He was actually the fastest rider of both classes with that time. Christian Craig and Garrett Marchbanks nabbed the second and third spots, respectively.
