The Triumph Tiger 1200 is getting a total overhaul for 2022 to bring it into line with class stalwarts BMW, KTM, and Ducati.
The machine represents a significant upgrade from the Hinckley boys and girls, with the Tiger range—consisting of three GT and two Rally modes—offering higher power, lower weight, and a much-improved tech package.
Starting with the motor, it’s still Triumph’s trademark T-plank three-cylinder configuration but capacity has actually been reduced from 1215 cc down to 1160 cc. That hasn’t stopped Triumph offering a decent increase in power and torque, with nine more horsepower at 148 hp on tap and five pounds feet of extra torque at 95 lb-ft.
The motor is narrower and mounted further towards the front of the chassis, with the radiators now a split design that narrows the front of the bike significantly.
Getting that power to the ground is the job of a redesigned shaft-drive and swingarm set-up, an area of significant weight saving for the motorcycle. Triumph is claiming a near 50 pounds less weight for the Tiger range, and up to 37 lb less than the nearest shaft drive competition.
Showa semi-active suspension is ubiquitous across the range, and there’s a new electronics suite that includes the usual IMU, traction control, Cornering ABS and wheelie control, but also a rear radar system that houses blind spot detection software but not adaptive cruise control.
One very cool factor is the Tiger 1200 has the option of going from the standard 5.2 gallon gas tank to a massive 7.9 gallons, so that can mean enormous riding between stops.
The three GT models will roll on a 19-inch front wheel, while the two Rally models will get a 21-inch front wheel. All bikes will use an 18-inch rear wheel.
Triumph says the lineup will start at $19,100 MSRP, going progressively up depending on the model and spec you choose. Expect these to arrive in dealers by the Spring of 2022.
Below is what Triumph has to say about the all-new Tiger 1200 family.
