2022 BMW R18 B First Look
Rennie Scaysbrook | July 30, 2021
Hot on the heels of the 2022 BMW R18 Transcontinental release comes the stripped back R 18 B, the “B” in this case meaning “Bagger”.
Using the base R 18 we tested last year as its starting platform, the R18 B uses the same air/oil-cooled flat twin that pumps out 90 hp at 4750 rpm and 116 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm, the same six-speed gearbox, and the same double-loop steel tube chassis.
You also get the same ABS-equipped Brembo four-piston caliper set-up mated to 300 mm discs and the same suspension.
Where the B differs is in the bikini fairing with the stubby windscreen and the rear bags, plus the dash is no longer the singular circle unit of the original R18 but the 10.25-inch TFT unit from the Transcontinental.
Neatly fitted onto the bagger is the same infotainment and audio system of the Transcontinental. The audio package has three options in the standard two-speaker package, four-speaker or six-speakers with subs and amplifiers.
You also get the same 6.3 gallon gas tank from the Transcontinental, up from 4.2 on the base R18. Weight is a hefty 877 lb ready to ride, in case you were wondering.
The 2022 BMW R18 B starts at $21,495 MSRP, but that’s before you delve into the BMW packages catalog, which will no doubt add a few bucks to the bottom line as BMW rarely does standard bikes these days.
