Cody Webb topped the results at the 2021 Tough Like RORR extreme off-road event held in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania on July 3-4. After mediocre results in the Saturday qualifying races, the Factory ONE Sherco rider mastered the much tougher and longer course on Sunday. FMF KTM’s Trystan Hart was feeling the effects of a crash the week before and could not match the pace of Webb and finishes second. And Ryder LeBlond had another amazing ride on his Dulullo Racing Husqvarna to round out the podium.
The riders agreed that the Tough Like RORR event was the toughest race yet in the 2021 AMA Extreme Off-Road championship. The event was round four of the east series and included two twenty-minute qualifying races to set the Sunday starting order.
LeBlond won both qualifying races to take the top spot heading into the Sunday final. Taylor Robert and Jordan Ashburn finished second and third in race one. In race two, Hart finished second ahead of Robert. Webb had fourth and sixth-place finishes on the relatively short and easy qualifying events.
Rain hit the area just before the Sunday final making the longer course far more difficult. The final would have a five-hour time limit to complete two laps that include both of Saturday’s loops plus some new sections. Rockstar Husqvarna’s Colton Haaker blasted to the front of the pack at the start with Webb and FactoryOne Sherco teammate Keith Curtis close behind. Hart and Robert were among a group of riders that crashed on the start and would be forced to come through the pack.
Webb, Haaker and Hart battled for the lead early on the first lap but Webb eventually opened a small gap over Hart who in turn opened a gap over Haaker. Webb finished the first lap just 2:52 ahead of Hart. LeBlond passed Haaker for third before the end of the first lap and the two battled for the final podium spot for much of the second lap
On the second and final lap, Webb continued to open the gap on Hart and he eventually finished the race in a time of three hours, twenty-seven minutes and forty-three seconds. Hart finished four minutes and forty-three seconds back. LeBlond was the only other rider to complete both loops in the five-hour time limit. He finished an hour and fifteen minutes behind Webb.
Haaker held on for a fourth place. Curtis rounded out the top five on his Sherco.
Logan Bolopue finished sixth on a Sherco. Ashburn was seventh on a Husqvarna. Robert recovered from a first turn crash and radiator replacement to finish eighth on his FMF KTM. Quinn Wentzel finished ninth on his Rieju and Will Riordan rounded out the top ten on his RPM KTM.
“The promoters did a great job of trying to beat us down this year,” said Webb. “This race may have been more difficult than Erzberg to be honest. Luckily the temperature was about perfect or we would’ve been falling apart. I did my best to act like a Diesel engine and keep trucking forward. I am very happy with my ride and for redeeming myself from the last race. My Sherco was spot on.”
“It was tough, it was relentless. The track was probably the hardest one in the U.S., I would say,” said Hart. “Coming into this race I wasn’t exactly healthy; I was coming in with a separated shoulder and an infected elbow and luckily the last two days before the race I had some rapid healing going on and it got a lot better in two days. I ended up being able to push it to the side and try to fight for the win. There were a couple spots where Cody made some time on me but I saw him maybe three miles from the finish, so he was right there for the taking and I didn’t take it. So, second it is.”
“Tough Like RORR was not Joke,” Leblond said. “Happy to get that podium finally. Cody and Trystan still smoked me so I still have a lot to work on.”
Louise Forsley topped the Women’s race, which was held on Sunday morning before the pro final. The FactoryOne Sherco rider battled with multi-time EnduroCross champion Shelby Turner on her KTM and finished just ten seconds ahead for the win. Rachel Gutish rounded out the podium on her Beta.
