Here is the press release from MotoGP:
The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports regret to announce the cancellation of the Red Bull Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and resulting travel complications and logistical restrictions mean it has not been possible to confirm the viability of the event at this time, and it will therefore not feature on the 2021 calendar. The FIM MotoGP World Championship looks forward to returning to race in front of the Australian fans at the spectacular Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in 2022.
The 2021 Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix has therefore been brought forward and will take place a week earlier than previously scheduled, from the 22nd to the 24th of October—the weekend immediately following the rescheduled OR Grand Prix of Thailand.
In addition, the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports are delighted to confirm the addition of the Grande Premio do Algarve to the 2021 FIM MotoGP World Championship calendar. MotoGP will return to Portimão from November 5-7, the week preceding the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana, as the iconic Autodromo do Algarve welcomes MotoGP back for a second Grand Prix this season.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chairman, Paul Little AO: “We’re terribly disappointed that for a second consecutive year, MotoGP fans won’t see the world’s best riders compete at the wonderful Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, including Australians Jack Miller in the MotoGP class, and Remy Gardner, who is currently leading the Moto2 world championship. We’re also disappointed for our staff, suppliers and partners, as well as the Phillip Island community and associated tourism industry that relies on the economic boost which comes with staging the event.”
Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO: “We are very sad to announce that we won’t be able to race at the stunning Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in 2021. One of our truly emblematic venues that always delivers incredible racing, it’s a favourite for fans worldwide and everyone in the paddock. Unfortunately, we will have to wait another year to return to Victoria, but we very much look forward to seeing the Australian fans in 2022 and staging another fantastic event together – this time with two home heroes, Jack Miller and Remy Gardner, on the premier class grid when we return.”
Mick Doohan, five-time 500cc World Champion and AGPC Board Member: “I’m totally devastated that we’re not hosting the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix again this year at Phillip Island, especially with the form we’ve got with Jack Miller in MotoGP and Remy Gardner in Moto2, who could have been in a position to win the Championship overall at Phillip Island.”
Jack Miller: “All us riders are really disappointed that we won’t be able to race at Phillip Island again this year – it’s a really tough thing for everyone, but we understand the situation and it’s the correct decision.” “Everyone in the paddock loves to come to Australia and I always feel proud of my home country when we get to host MotoGP, because everyone loves that track and that event so much. So, fingers crossed things can change for 2022 and we can ride at one of the best tracks in the world and in front of the awesome fans there.”
The following is an announcement from June 24, 2021:
The United States will once again host a MotoGP event after Dorna confirmed a rescheduled race date for October 3 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX.
The event was canceled last year amid the global Covid-19 pandemic, and it looked as though the race would not return until 2022 as no official date had been set when the calendar was released at the beginning of 2021. That’s all changed as the race will move from its traditional April date to October for this year, although no word has been made if this will be a permanent date change going forward.
“The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports can now announce a new date for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas,” MotoGP Commercial Rights Holder Dorna said in a statement. “The event was previously postponed and will now take place from the 1st to the 3rd of October 2021.
“The OR Grand Prix of Thailand will therefore take place a week later than previously scheduled, from the 15th to the 17th of October.
“The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports must also confirm the cancelation of the Motul Grand Prix of Japan. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and resulting travel complications and logistical restrictions mean that it has not been possible to confirm the event at this time, meaning that it will therefore not feature on the 2021 calendar. The FIM MotoGP Championship looks forward to returning to race in front of the Japanese fans at their home Grand Prix in 2022.”

The following is an announcement from May 14, 2021:
The 2021 MotoGP provisional calendar has been updated: The 2021 Finnish Grand Prix is canceled and the two races in Austria will now take place at the beginning of August.
In addition, the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports are thrilled to announce the Michelin® Grand Prix of Styria will be added to the 2021 calendar. The event will take place at the Red Bull Ring August 6-8, the weekend preceding the Austrian Grand Prix.
Therefore, following upcoming races in Italy, Catalunya, Germany and Netherlands, the premier class paddock will begin their summer break two weeks earlier than originally scheduled. However, MotoGP will return to action a week earlier now with a double-header in Austria, before then traveling to Great Britain, Aragon and San Marino, Then, it will be time for the flyaway races in October – starting with Japan and ending with Malaysia, with Valencia then hosting the season finale from the 12th to the 14th of November.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns and complications sadly mean both the Argentina GP and the Americas GP currently remain postponed until the last quarter of 2021, with the Mandalika International Street Circuit in Indonesia being placed as a reserve Grand Prix venue, subject to homologation.

Update from November 6, 2020:
Twenty rounds have provisionally been set between March and November next year; Portimao, Indonesia and Russia on the reserve list.
The following is a press release from MotoGP…
The provisional 2021 MotoGP calendar has been released as we get a first taste as to what next year’s season might look like. Nineteen venues are currently on the provisional calendar with a 20th to be decided, while Portimao, Indonesia and the Igora Drive Circuit in Russia are on the ‘Reserve Grand Prix Venues’ list.
The provisional calendar will see the opening race of the season take place in Qatar, our usual opening Grand Prix venue at the end of March. After a weekend off the MotoGP circus heads to Argentina and America on April 11 and 18 before the European leg begins, as usual, at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto on May 2.
France, Italy, Catalunya, Germany, Netherlands and—subject to homologation—Finland will lead us to July 11, with the next venue on the list currently down as TBA. If the provisional calendar becomes the final one, then Austria and Great Britain host MotoGP races in August, before the Aragon and San Marino rounds take place in September.
Then, hopefully, it’s time for the flyaway races. Japan and Thailand will be back to back on October 3 and 10, before Australia and Malaysia get underway on October 24 and 31. And then, after a weekend off, the grand finale will be held in Valencia on November 14 as another season draws to a close in eastern Spain.
