On Wednesday, June 9 (6/9), known throughout the motorsports community as Nicky Hayden Day, Specialized of Costa Mesa hosted a 69-mile bicycle ride to honor the Kentucky Kid.
The ride was put on with backing from Specialized Bicycles, FMF, Ryno Power, Seven 10 Graphics and a number of athletes came out to show their support. Motocross stars like Justin Barcia, Marvin Musquin, Colt Nichols, Justin Cooper, Christian Craig, Jarrett Frye, Levi Kitchen and Matt Leblanc were joined by living legends like Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward and Star Racing Yamaha’s Team Trainer Gareth Swanepoel.
More than 50 riders were treated to a beautiful Southern California day as they embarked on Pacific Coast Highway. The coastal route included a trek from Costa Mesa north to the Huntington Beach Pier, south to Dana Point Harbor, and ultimately back to Costa Mesa. A Police escort was also organized for the duration of the ride to ensure safety for such a big group. The ride concluded with an after party of food, drinks and a raffle at the Rosso Corsa Gallery.
Nicky Hayden was struck by a car while cycling near the Italian Misano Circuit, May 17, 2017 and later succumbed to his injuries.
