Marc Marquez will make his long-awaited return at round three of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship at the Portimao Circuit in Portugal on April 16-18.
It will be the first time we’ve seen the eight-time World Champion since his ill-fated return from a heavily broken right humorous suffered in round one at Jerez in 2020. Marquez did attempt to ride just five days later at the Andalusian MotoGP, but pulled out after a handful of laps and has subsequently gone through three major operations as his arm healed much slower than expected.
A statement released by Repsol Honda said, “In the review carried out on Marc Marquez by the Hospital Ruber Internacional medical team, four months after surgery, led by Doctors Samuel Antuña and Ignacio Roger de Oña, and made up of Doctors De Miguel, Ibarzabal and García Villanueva, for an infected pseudoarthrosis of the right humerus, a very satisfactory clinical condition was found, with evident progress in the bone consolidation process. In the current situation, Marquez can return to competition, assuming the reasonable risk implicit in his sporting activity.”
Marquez took to Instagram to announce his delight at his return to MotoGP competition.
“I’M VERY HAPPY! Yesterday I visited the doctors and they gave me the green light to return to competition. They have been 9 difficult months, with moments of uncertainties and ups and downs, and now, finally, I will be able to enjoy my passion again! See you next week in Portimao!!”
