Webb tops 2021 Orlando Supercross round 7 Results. After a fourteen-year hiatus, the Monster Energy Supercross Series returned to Orlando, Florida. In fact, this week’s track was an exact replica of the last Orlando layout from 2007 when Ricky Carmichael raced the final Supercross of his career. Rains in the morning delayed practice, but the track crew did a fantastic job of keeping the track dry all night.
Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb ended Ken Roczen’s (Honda HRC) three-race win streak at the first of two rounds of racing in Orlando. This is Webb’s second win of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season and he cut three points into Roczens championship lead.
2021 Orlando Supercross Rnd 7 Results – 450SX Main Event
The 450SX main event started off neck and neck with former race winner Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) grabbing the holeshot just ahead of Justin Brayton (Muc Off Honda) and Roczen. Osborne led the pack through the finish line on lap one but gave up the lead on lap two. A costly mistake through the whoops allowed Brayton and Roczen to slip by with the number-10 machine taking over the lead position.
As Osborne slid back, Webb found himself in third place and closing in on the front group. Webb tripled through the last rhythm section before the finish to pass both Honda riders in one corner. Webb took over the lead and would never relinquish it from this point forward.
A hard-charging Justin Barcia (Red Bull GasGas) looked well-recovered after a late-race crash last weekend in Indianapolis. The number-51 made his way around Osborne and into the third place around the five-minute mark. However, Barcia had a wild ride through the whoops late in the race to allow Osborne back into third.
Roczen kept Webb honest for most of the race, never letting the lead get to more than two seconds. Unfortunately for the Factory Honda rider, he was unable to get close enough to make a pass attempt and had to settle for second on the night.
Osborne held off Barcia for the final podium spot, his first of the 2021 season.
Title contender Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) won his heat race but suffered a poor start in the main and was forced to ride through the pack to finish fifth.
2021 Orlando Supercross Rnd 7 Results – 250SX East Main Event
The big news in the 250SX class would start early in the heat races with championship heavyweight, Christian Craig (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) having a huge crash. He banged up his hand and had to transfer to the main event via the LCQ.
In the main, it was the heat race winners Jett Lawrence (Honda HRC) and Colt Nichols (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) that started first and second, respectively. Craig pushed through the pain and quickly found his way into the final podium position.
Jo Shimoda (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) had a rough start to the main event but passed Kevin Moranz for fourth place with eleven minutes remaining.
Nichols was closing in on the leader with just eight minutes to go but a costly mistake just before the big triple jump allowed Lawrence to squirt away and solidify the race win. The Honda HRC pilot rode a near-flawless race, leading wire to wire for the second time in his career. Nichols and Craig rounded out the podium in Orlando.
The second-place finish for Lawrence extended his points lead, while Lawrence reclaims points lost from a rough round in Indianapolis. Craig gutted out a solid podium finish to salvage points and keep his championship hopes alive.
