2021 Kawasaki KLX300 and KLX300SM First Look
Cycle News Staff | November 23, 2020
Kawasaki introduced new models for 2021—the KLX300 dual sport and KLX300SM supermoto.
2021 Kawasaki KLX300
The KLX300 replaces the previous KLX250 with a bump in engine displacement, from 249cc to 292cc. Bore has increased to 78.0mm (from 72.0mm) but stroke remains the same at 61.2mm. It also shares the same cam profiles as the off-road only KLX300R. Compression ratio increased just a tick, from 11.0:1 to 11.1:1.
With more power on tap, the water-cooling system has been updated with dual radiators that are slimmer than before.
The new 2021 KLX300 comes with a $5599 MSRP (a $200 increase) and is available in two color options, Lime Green and Camo Gray ($5799).
2021 Kawasaki KLX300SM
Alongside the KLX300 dual sport comes the KLX300SM dual sport. The 2021 KLX300SM was developed alongside the KLX300 dual-sport and features similar DNA, including many shared engine and chassis components. Where the models differ is overall styling and intended use. While the KLX300 dual-sport is equal parts on-road and dirt, the KLX300SM receives a host of supermoto inspired componentry. This includes 17-inch front and rear wheels paired with street tires, supermoto tuned suspension, and styling.
The KLX300SM sells for $5999 and comes with two color options: Lime Green/Ebony and Oriental Blue/Ebony.
