2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 to use front and rear radar
Rennie Scaysbrook | October 6, 2020
The 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4, due to be formally announced on November 4, 2020, will feature a production motorcycle first in front and rear radar.
The technology will allow for the machine to use adaptive cruise control via the front radar system, another production motorcycle first, and one commonly found in the four-wheel automotive space.
The rear radar will detect when a passing vehicle is in the rider’s blind spot. This will be reported to the rider via a system integrated into the rearview mirror, again like in cars. It will also warn of vehicles approaching at high speed.
“Radar is an advanced aid system capable of supporting and making riding more comfortable thanks to the ability to reconstruct the reality surrounding the motorcycle,” Ducati said in a press release. “Ducati’s interest in this type of system dates back to 2016 when the company worked in collaboration with the Department of Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano to experiment with this type of system. This first experience has confirmed the applicability of this kind of technology to vehicles on two wheels, and has pushed Ducati to the creation of a complete package of riding assistance using front and rear-facing radar units that, within four years, have been developed and produced in close cooperation with Bosch, a top-level technology partner, and sees its first application on the new Multistrada V4.”
More details are due to drop on the Multistrada V4 soon, with the engine unveiled on October 15 and the complete motorcycle on November 5.
