Repsol Honda rider Toni Bou claimed his 28th World Championship title after winning both days at the season final in Italy, October 10-1.
It was Bou’s fifth and sixth wins of the series and 14th GP world title. Bou actually clinched the championship on Saturday. He topped the field with room to spare over fellow Spaniards Jorge Casales (GasGas) and Jaime Busto (Vertigo).
Bou won again on Sunday ahead of Jeroni Fajardo (Sherco) and Casales. In the 2020 Championship, Bou finished well clear of Adam Raga (TRRS), 152-121. Third went to Busto with 105 points. Casales and Fajardo rounded out the top five.
“I really did not expect to win the title today,” Bou said after officially clinching the title on Saturday. “It was a very tight trial, like all of the races this year, and that makes it very easy to drop from first to seventh, so we could not make any mistakes. I am very happy with this title, and even more so as this year has been so strange, with many training sessions and few races.”
