Press Release | August 31, 2020
Bonhams’ annual fall auction “Collectors’ Motorcycles & Motorcars at the Barber Museum” will be live and online. In addition, a LIVE bidding option will be available to registered bidders at the Barber Museum.
The following is a press release from Bonhams…
Although the 2020 Barber Vintage Festival has been canceled as a result of COVID-19, the Barber Motorsports Park will still be hosting the exciting American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) races, and the Barber Motorsports Museum doors will be open to the public with extended hours. In concert with this, Bonhams is returning to the Museum to display the majority of their Collectors’ Motorcycles & Motorcars preview while allowing for live bidding from the Museum floor.
Bonhams will employ the same successful format recently used for their Quail Motorcar Auction–live and online with vehicles previewed from regional hubs. This includes the majority of motorcycles being present on site at the highlighted venue – the world-renowned Barber Motorsports Museum, as well as lots previewed at the Simeone Automotive Museum in Philadelphia and at Bonhams’ Sunset Boulevard gallery in Los Angeles.
“This method has been warmly received by sellers,” says Mathieu Guyot-Sionnest, Bonhams US Head of Motorcycles. “Without having to ship motorcycles across the country to be sold, the convenience – and in many cases cost savings – can be considerable and feedback from sellers has been very positive.”
As always, buyers will be able to view all lots online in advance and request condition reports or inspect a motorcycle or sportscar in person at one of the three designated viewing locations. On auction day, the sale will take place live, as with any other auction, and broadcast online. Bids can be made online, by telephone, and in person at the Barber Museum for registered bidders.
Of course, sensible safety precautions will be in place to protect all participants – our foremost priority.
Consigned to this years’ sale – the third in partnership with the Barber Motorsports Museum – is the previously announced collection of early BMWs, including a very rare R57, as well as a 1977 Porsche 911 RS Outlaw, among many more collectible bikes and sportscars.
“We’ve had some very impressive motorcycles sell at this annual auction with very respectable results,” says Ben Walker, Bonhams Global Head of Motorcycles. “Examples include the 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross ridden by Steve McQueen in the movie On Any Sunday and the extremely rare 1928 Windhoff Four that both sold for $230,500 each, and the antique survivor 1913 Thor Single that made $51,750, to name just a few.”
Consignments of all makes and models of motorcycles and sportscars are being welcomed to the Saturday, October 10th auction and sellers are encouraged to contact:
