Jerez MotoGP Test Day One Results Session Two

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales has taken the top spot in the second session of Day One of the Jerez MotoGP test, posting a 1:37.793 in the afternoon.

Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) claimed second place as both Yamahas went quicker in the searing afternoon temperatures, ahead of Session One leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team).

Fourth in Session One, Aleix Espargaro had a mechanical problem with his Aprilia that dropped fluid on the track, causing both Alex Marquez (Repsol Honda) and Danilo Petrucci (Ducati Team) to go down. Both riders escaped injury.

Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) claimed P4 on his GSX-RR, with everyone down to fellow Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Joan Mir in ninth, failing to go faster in the afternoon conditions. Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) was fifth for the day.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), who was putting in the laps just two weeks after breaking his left collarbone two weeks ago in a motocross training accident was 15th, 0.986s from Vinales’ time.

Jerez MotoGP Test Day One Results Session One

MotoGP returned to competitive track action for the first time since the Covid-19 shutdown today for a two-day test ahead of this weekend’s round one of the 2020 MotoGP World Championship at Jerez.

Two 90-minute test sessions were scheduled for the MotoGP class at Jerez with Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) taking the early ascension, heading the timesheets with a 1:37.941, just over one-tenth quicker than in the Jerez race last year. Suzuki’s Alex Rins came in second after the first day from Monster Energy Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi, with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro making it four different manufacturers in the top four and showing the potential of the new RS-GP 2020 machine

In the Moto2 class, Tom Lüthi (Liqui Moly Intact GP) topped the opening session with a best time of 1:42.422 which saw him lead Luca Marini (SKY Racing Team VR46) by less than a tenth. Sam Lowes was 0.175 off in P3 on board his EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex as the British rider returns to action fully fit, following the shoulder injury that saw him miss the Qatar GP.

The Moto3 class saw riders John McPhee (Petronas Sprinta Racing) topping the times from Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) and Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse).

MotoE also got a run, with class rookie Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) leading the way from Xavier Simeon (LCR E-Team) and reigning Cup winner Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE).
