Throwback Thursday: Tiger and Flyin’ Fred Chase the Texas Tornado

In this week’s Throwback we travel back 26 years to March of 1994 and the AMA Superbike race at Phoenix International Raceway. This photo shows a great battle with Colin Edwards, aka The Texas Tornado, (No. 45) on the Vance & Hines Yamaha leading Takahiro “Tiger” Sohwa (No. 41) and “Flyin’ Fred” Merkel (No. 27), both on factory Muzzy Kawasakis. In the end Merkel was the top finisher out of this group, just getting by Edwards to finish runner up to Ferracci Ducati’s Troy Corser. Sohwa finished seventh.
