Justin Barcia top the 2020 Anaheim 1 Supercross Results. It’s never easy to predict the outcome of the opening supercross of the year. Nerves are high, and many of the racers only know that their motorcycle works well for them in ideal conditions at the test track, which means it’s fairly frequent that the eventual series champion doesn’t do that well at Anaheim 1. That said, Monster Energy Yamaha’s Justin Barcia might be making Anaheim 1 wins into a habit, as he’s now won the event for the second year in succession. But this time, he did it in dry conditions.
Justin Barcia wins Anaheim 1 Supercross. Again.
Defending Supercross Champ Cooper Webb exhibited his resilience once again at Anaheim 1. He came down with what the team described as “the flu,” with nausea, vomiting, which sapped his energy and focus for qualifying, which landed him in 15th overall. But he did as he usually does, got a good start, and then battled it out with Honda’s Ken Roczen to take an eventual third place.
Cooper Webb starts title defense well despite illness
Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett came through for a solid fourth place on the night (he said at the Friday press conference that the best he’d ever done at Anaheim 1 was 14th place), and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson took Honda’s Justin Brayton out for fifth in the main event. Roczen ended up sixth, just in front of Eli Tomac (who started outside the top 10) and Brayton.

In the 250cc class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner looked to have the main event in the bag despite injuring his wrist in practice. He got the holeshot in the main event and led for quite a while before jumping into the Tuff Blox and giving up the lead to Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Justin Cooper, and second place to Cooper’s teammate, defending series champ Dylan Ferrandis. But when Forkner got back going again, he cut off one of the track’s turns and entered the track in front of Ferrandis, momentarily blocking Ferrandis’s line. After the race, the AMA docked Forkner two positions; 1 for cutting the track, and the other for cutting Ferrandis off.
Justin Cooper takes first-ever supercross win at Anaheim 1
Ferrandis hung on for second after a seventh-place start, and GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig finished fourth on the track, and then was awarded third due to Forkner’s penalty.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Michael Mosiman finished fifth on the track and was awarded fourth after Forkner’s penalty. Forkner, officially, ended up fifth.

And there was a ‘first’ that nobody expected at Anaheim 1, as the 250cc racers on the podium weren’t given trophies or champagne to spray.

Anaheim 1 Qualifying Results
Qualifying for the Anaheim 1 Supercross, opening round of the 2020 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, is in the books and two riders certainly set the bar in their respective classes—Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) in the 450SX class and Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing) in the 250SX West division.
In the 250SX class, Ferrandis, the defending 250SX West Champion, seems to be a notch above the others in his class, finishing more than a half-second ahead of his nearest rival teammate Justin Cooper. Much of this has to do with his absolute mastery of the track’s two whoop sections, one in particular. Cooper and Geico Honda’s Christian Craig, third in qualifying, also look strong in the whoops but not as strong as Ferrandis.
Alex Martin is flying on his JGRMX/Yoshimura/Factory Suzuki, finishing out qualifying fourth quickest.
Cameron McAdoo, a new member of the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki squad, rounded out the top five.
McAdoo’s teammate Austin Forkner was challenging Ferrandis for top honors but suffered a hard get-off in one of the whoop sections in Q2 and was slow to his feet, though he did walk back to the pits. Before the crash, he was able to set the sixth-quickest time.
In the 450SX, Cianciarulo is confirming that his win at the Monster Energy Cup back in October is no fluke. He topped the charts in both 450SX timed qualifying. The Monster Energy Kawasaki Team rider made good use of his long legs to blitz the whoops better than anyone, and he did so with consistency. He and his veteran teammate, Eli Tomac, battled it out for top honors, but it was Cianciarulo coming out on top by half a second, which is significant on this track.
Cianciarulo Dominates Anaheim 1 Supercross Qualifying
The 2018 Supercross Champion, Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) was third quickest and the last of the top three to crack 56-second mark.
Malcolm Stewart and Justin Hill made it two Smarttop Hondas in the top five. Both riders look very inspired, especially Stewart who also looks extremely fast in the whoops.
Defending champ Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) is struggling to find his championship-winning speed and is surprisingly way down the list in 15th place.
Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV-MC KTM) is also off the pace in 16th, and Chad Reed failed to crack the top 20 (22nd).
Overall, the day/night couldn’t be before for supercross racing. It’s nothing like last year’s rain-fest. The track has been described as not too technical, but the two whoop sections could play a major factor in tonight’s outcome.
