As the 2020 EICMA Show in Milan kicks off, a few manufacturers have begun releasing new bikes and styles, but Yamaha isn’t one of them.
The Iwata brand will be playing it pretty low-key this year ahead of a bigger year in 2021 when Euro 5 emission laws kick in and new designs are necessitated. Here’s a brief look at Yamaha’s product line-up for 2020.
Yamaha XSR700
The sporty and retro-styled XSR700 returns for 2020 sporting its playful CP2 crossplane concept 689cc inline twin-cylinder engine. Exposed aluminum details, retro-influenced bodywork, a stepped seat, and a classically-styled headlight and taillight keep the XSR700 in line with previous model year esthetics.
Features on the XSR700 include fuel injection, a sporty chassis with modern suspension, ABS, 10-spoke cast-aluminum wheels, and LCD instrumentation.
The 2020 XSR700 will be available in a new Radical White/Rapid Red paint scheme for an MSRP of $8,499. Authorized Yamaha dealers will begin receiving bikes in February.
Yamaha XSR900
The big brother to the XSR700, the XSR900 continues the trend of a sporty and playful ride from Yamaha’s 847cc inline triple-cylinder engine.
Features on the 2020 Yamaha XSR900 include The single-piece stepped seat features a stitched “XSR900” logo, teardrop mirrors, narrow aluminum frame designed to provide riders with light and nimble handling, adjustable suspension front and rear, ABS, an assist-and-slipper clutch, and electronic rider aids that include traction control and D-MODE selectable throttle response.
Available in the new Radical White/Rapid Red paint scheme, the 2020 XSR900 will begin arriving at dealerships in November for an MSRP of $9,499.
Yamaha FJR1300ES
The big changes for FJR1300ES in 2020 is a new color option of Liquid Graphite. The FJR1300ES retains its smooth-running 1298cc inline four-cylinder engine for 2020. A range of features including tuneable electronic suspension, electronic rider aids, lean angle-sensitive LED cornering headlights, an electronically-adjustable windscreen, adjustable handlebars, an adjustable rider seat height, integrated quick-release side cases, heated handlebar grips, a 6.6-gallon fuel tank, and more make the Yamaha FJR1300ES a capable sport-touring machine.
The 2020 FJR1300ES will begin arriving at dealers in March for an MSRP of $17,999.
Yamaha Tracer 900 GT
The Tracer 900 GT remains unchanged for 2020. Powered by a CP3 847cc inline three-cylinder engine the Tracer 900 GT provides riders a spirited and comfortable ride ideal for a daily commute, fun rides on twisty tarmac, and long-distance getaways.
The Tracer 900 GT retains such amenities as electronic rider aids, adjustable suspension, QSS, a height-adjustable windshield, an adjustable rider seat height, integrated side cases, a generous 4.8-gallon fuel tank
Available in a Matte Raven Black/Reddish Copper color scheme the 2020 Tracer 900 GT will begin arriving at dealers in December for an MSRP of $12,999.
Yamaha YZF-R1 and R1M
Changes to Yamaha’s flagship superbike are few with regards to performance. The 998cc inline four-cylinder crossplane crankshaft engine comes with updated cylinder head, fuel injectors, finger-follower rocker arms, and camshaft profiles for 2020. Riders can also expect a full electronics package with IMU and Premium Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension.
Both R1 and R1M receive minor changes to bodywork with Yamaha touting a 5.3% increase in aerodynamic efficiency, reduced wind noise, and pressure on the rider when in a tucked position. Improved comfort also comes from smoother side sections where the rider’s legs contact the bike.
The new 2020 YZF-R1 will be available in Team Yamaha Blue and Raven color schemes for an MSRP of $17,300 and will begin arriving at Yamaha dealers in September.
The new 2020 YZF-R1M will initially be available in limited quantities exclusively through Yamaha’s online reservation system in a Carbon Fiber color scheme for an MSRP of $26,099.
MT-07
The MT-07 returns with its 689cc CP2 twin-cylinder engine, narrow frame design, and lightweight, neutral handling character. The 2020 model is priced at $7,599 and will be available in Ice Fluo, Team Yamaha Blue, and Matte Raven Black color schemes.
The 2020 MT-07 arrives at authorized Yamaha dealerships beginning in November 2019.
MT-09
The MT-09 returns with its 847cc inline triple-cylinder engine sporting an aluminum chassis, adjustable suspension, electronic rider aids, and comfortable ergonomics.
The 2020 MT-09 will be available from authorized Yamaha dealers in Ice Fluo, Team Yamaha Blue, and Matte Raven Black color schemes for an MSRP of $8,999 beginning in November 2019.
MT-10
The MT-10 returns with its 998cc inline 4-cylinder engine that features the same Crossplane Crankshaft technology developed in Yamaha’s renowned YZF-R1 superbike, the MT-10 offers riders gobs of torque and acceleration at the twist of the wrist. Featuring a full electronic package, a lightweight and responsive chassis, suspension with a wide range of adjustability, and comfortable upright riding ergonomics.
The 2020 MT-10 will be available from authorized Yamaha dealers for an MSRP of $12,999 in Ice Fluo and Matte Raven Black color schemes beginning in November 2019. Sam Bendall
