2020 BMW F900 R
Developed as a whole new platform, the F 900 R is described by BMW to deliver a sporty, active, and dynamic road riding experience. At the heart of the F 900 R is an 895cc inline two-cylinder engine that was introduced in 2018 with the F 850 but receives a 42cc increase. The updated engine produces 105 horsepower and 64 ft-lb of torque and will also be available in a 42 horsepower A2 license class for European riders.
Two riding modes are included in the base package: “Rain”, “Road”, with “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” added as a premium option. With the upgraded “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” riders receive more ability to customize throttle response, traction control (DTC) intervention, engine braking (DBC), and cornering ABS.
The F 900 R utilizes a steel bridge frame for added rigidity and sporty handling with a newly developed bolt-on steel rear frame. The suspension is handled upfront by a torsion-resistant upside-down telescopic fork with a slider tube diameter of 43 mm and 135 mm of travel. In the rear 5.6 inches of travel is achieved via a central monoshock. Both are manually adjustable for preload, rebound and damping however BMW offers a Dynamic Electronic Suspension option on the F 900 R for an additional price.
Braking comes courtesy of four-piston radial brake calipers biting on dual 320mm up front and single-piston floating caliper and 265mm single disc in the rear.
Other standard features include a world motorcycle first, plastic welded 3.3-gallon tank, LED lighting, daytime running lights, 6.5-inch TFT display, and BMW Motorrad connectivity suite.
For a little extra coin, the F 900 R is generously optioned via BMW ex-works packages. Additional options can include Adaptive Cornering Light, keyless ride, BMW Shift Assist Pro (BMW’s version of an up/down quick shifter), heated handgrips, cruise control, Intelligent Emergency Call, and more.
The F 900 R will be available in three colors: Hockenheim Silver metallic/Racing Red, San Marino Blue Metallic, and Blackstorm metallic.
U.S. pricing and availability have yet to be announced but we will update you when the information becomes available.
