Harley-Davidson LiveWire Back in Production

The Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle is back in production, following a stoppage attributed to a “non-standard condition” related to charging processes last week (see below).
“After completing rigorous analysis this week, we have resumed LiveWire production and deliveries,” Harley-Davidson said in a statement. “Customers may continue riding their LiveWire motorcycle and are able to charge the motorcycle through all methods. Temporarily stopping LiveWire production allowed us to confirm that the non-standard condition identified on one motorcycle was a singular occurrence. We take pride in our rigorous quality assurance measures and our drive to deliver the world’s best motorcycles.”
Harley-Davidson Suspends LiveWire Production
Harley-Davidson has suspended production and deliveries of their all-new LiveWire electric motorcycle after the company revealed a problem relating to the motorcycle’s charging equipment.
H-D has asked customers and dealers who have a LiveWire to only use the DC Fast Charging plug available at Harley-Davidson dealerships, rather than plug the motorcycle into the wall in their personal garage.
The news is highly unwelcome for H-D just as the LiveWire is beginning to reach customers after having been in development since 2014.
“During a final quality check, we identified a non-standard condition significant enough that we stopped production and deliveries until we understand the findings through additional testing and analysis,” the company said in its letter to dealers. “As a precaution, we contacted all dealers and customers who have taken delivery of LiveWire motorcycles. We informed them they may continue riding their LiveWire motorcycles and limit charging to only DC Fast Charge outlets.
“Our testing is progressing well as we approach this situation with care and urgency so we can resume LiveWire production and deliveries. While this is disappointing for all of us, delivering high-quality motorcycles is our top priority.”
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire has come under fire for its $30,000 price tag, making it the fourth most expensive motorcycle in the company’s line up, and this will no doubt be another headache in the LiveWire story.
