Mountain View, CA (April 16, 2019) – With a perfect location right on the straightaway of Circuit of the Americas (COTA), this year’s Ducati Island event in Austin, Texas, was a ‘must visit’ destination for MotoGP race fans and Ducati owners during the weekend. The energy of the activities, which included rider appearances and product test rides, was only heightened by the finishing results which placed Ducati factory racer Andrea Dovizioso in first place in the overall standings of the 2019 MotoGP season, now with 54 points and Ducati in the points lead for manufacturers.
Ducati Island is the #1 Ducati fan experience location during MotoGP weekend, with more than 74,000 square feet of event space, engaging with interactive opportunities, including a spirited Ducati Parade Lap led by the Ducati executive team in which 175 Ducatisti participated and an exhilarating Zip Line flying participants high over Turn 1. With an increase of 40% in Ducati Island ticket-packages sales, holders had Ducati-only parking on the Island, complimentary gear check, the Ducati exclusive track lap, a VIP pit lane walk, and a “Merenda” Italian-inspired lunch served by the Ducati executive team from North American and the Italian headquarters. This was all in addition to a signature Ducati welcome gift and access to Ducati’s VIP hospitality lounge that towered above the front straight for some of the best viewing at COTA.
Global Chief Executive Officer Claudio Domenicali and North American Chief Executive, Jason Chinnock, who were both onsite participating directly with the fans during the weekend leading the parade lap, serving lunch to the owners during the Merenda and interviewing riders on the stage. Ducati’s MotoGP pilots, Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci, joined the main stage the morning of race day addressing the cheering crowds and signing autographs before taking to the track.
Demonstration rides of the newest Ducati motorcycles were also available to guests, which included the chance to twist the throttle on the Diavel 1260, the first new Diavel since its introduction in 2010, which now has an updated engine delivering incredible torque coupled to its unmistakable design, the style of which recently garnered the bike the prestigious “Red Dot: Best of the Best” award for product design. Additional motorcycles available to test ride at COTA were the new 2019 Scrambler lineup, as part of the fun Scrambler Land of Joy school bus tour kick-off — a perfect entry-point to the Ducati family for new and returning riders, now with purchase options as low as $86 per month through Ducati Premier Financing.
The MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas took place on April 14 and was the third race of the 2019 MotoGP season, and the only North American stop of this year’s schedule. Announcement of new 2020 MotoGP Ducati Island event activities and ticket-package benefits are forthcoming, once 2020 season dates are released.
