2019 Ducati Hypermotard 950 and 950 SP First Look
| November 4, 2018
2019 Ducati Hypermotard 950 and 950 SP First Look—Replacing Ducati’s Hypermotard 939 supermoto on steroids is the new Hypermotard 950 for 2019. This new hooligan model’s engine, although sharing the same 937cc displacement as last year’s Testastretta Twin, has been massaged to muscle out four more horsepower at a claimed 114 hp at 9,000 rpm with 71 ft-lbs of torque at 7,250 rpm. The added performance is the result of pistons with a higher, 13.3:1 compression ratio (vs. last year’s 12.6:1), revised exhaust cam profiles, and a slick, new under-tail dual exhaust system.

Optimizing the Hypermotard 950’s performance is a Ride by Wire throttle and six-axis Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). Together, these systems work to control the bikes sophisticated electronic suite of rider aids which include three ride modes (Sport, Touring, and Urban), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), and Bosch braking and cornering ABS, which has a Slide by Brake setting allowing you to disable rear wheel ABS to back it in supermoto style while keeping it active up front.
Featuring a wider handlebar, a slimmer midsection, and a new seat that’s thinner at the tank junction, ergonomics are said to be improved, too. A new trellis frame and subframe also reduce the bike’s overall weight while enhancing its aggressive looks, and a hydraulic clutch replaces the previously cable-operated one.
For riders looking for even more performance, we get a Hypermotard 950 SP model as well. In addition to racier graphics, a fully-adjustable 48mm Öhlins fork, and rear shock absorber replace the 45mm Marzocchi and Sachs units found on the non-SP. The SP’s Öhlins also offer 15mm more travel in the front and 25mm more in the rear, increasing the SP’s max lean angle to 47 degrees compared to the base 950’s 44. Additionally, the SP gets forged Marchesini wheels, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) as standard, carbon fiber components, a flatter, more performance-inspired seat, and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires.
