2019 Ducati Diavel 1260 and 1260 S First Look
| November 4, 2018
2019 Ducati Diavel 1260 and 1260 S First Look—Undeniably Ducati’s most unconventional and unique model, the Diavel is back for 2019 with a host of new updates. Previously displacing 1198cc, this sport-naked-inspired power cruiser is now powered by the new 1262cc Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine, which not only increases claimed output and torque to 159 hp at 9500 rpm and 95 ft-lb at 7500 rpm (compared to 152 hp and 91 ft-lb before), but also pulls double duty as a stressed member of the chassis. Thanks to the DVT technology, this new motor delivers a broader powerband that’s been tuned for more pavement-wrinkling torque down low and throughout the midrange without sacrificing any of its top-end pull.
2019 Ducati Diavel 1260 and 1260 S First Look
Controlled via its Ride by Wire throttle and six-axis Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), the 2019 Diavel features a sophisticated electronics suite of rider aids that help harness the Diavel’s performance and delivers three distinct ride modes: Sport, Touring, and Urban. Each provides various adjustable levels of power output and delivery, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Power Launch (DPL), braking and cornering ABS, and of course, cruise control – all easily programmable via the full-color, high-resolution TFT dash and left handlebar switch.
Two models will be available. While the regular Diavel gets a fully-adjustable, split-function 50mm Marzocchi fork and a Sachs rear shock as standard, the Diavel S will get a trick 48mm fully-adjustable Öhlins front fork and rear shock instead. On the braking front, the S model features radially-mounted Brembo monobloc M50 calipers clamping down on dual floating 320mm rotors over the Brembo M4.32 units found on the non S version. Additionally, the Diavel S will come with the Ducati Quick Shifter (up and down) and Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) as standard equipment.
Finally, maintenance intervals have been extended to oil changes every 9300 miles and valve timing service every 18,600 miles, making owning a new Ducati easier than ever. Brent Jaswinski
