2018 Millville 250cc National MX Results: Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger might have finally hit his stride. Prior to the Spring Creek MX National today in Millville, Minnesota, Plessinger had won three rounds of the 2018 Lucas Oil/AMA 250cc Pro Motocross Championships, all with 1-1 scores, but in the other four rounds of racing, Plessinger had only scored two podium moto finishes and had failed to string together two overall wins in a row. Until today.
Plessinger was dominant at the last round at RedBud, and after a weekend off, he came out looking like the same guy at Spring Creek, going 1-1 for the overall.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy got the holeshot to start the opening moto, but Savatgy handed the lead to TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith about halfway through lap one when Savatgy washed the front end out in freshly watered dirt at the bottom of one of Spring Creek’s massive hills.
Smith led Plessinger’s teammate Justin Cooper, Savatgy’s teammate Austin Forkner, Plessinger, and GEICO Honda’s Chase Sexton, while Smith’s teammate (and heretofore runner-up in the championship chase) Alex Martin (who literally grew up at the Spring Creek facility) rounded the first lap at the tail end of the top 10.
Plessinger went to work right away, and once he found his way by Forkner, he used late braking at the bottom of the same hill on consecutive laps to dispatch of both Cooper for second and then Smith for the lead.
Plessinger took the moto win about 7.5 seconds in front of Forkner at the finish, followed by Smith in his first moto podium of the year, and then Cooper, Smith’s teammate Shane McElrath, Sexton’s teammate RJ Hampshire, and then Martin in seventh. Behind Martin came Sexton, Plessinger’s teammate Colt Nichols, Savatgy, and Plessinger’s other teammate Dylan Ferrandis.
Martin, disappointed with his moto-one finish, came sweeping through to grab the holeshot to start moto two over Plessinger, Cooper, Hampshire, Smith, Savatgy and Forkner, and then Plessinger used the exact same downhill he used twice in a row in moto one to go by Martin for the lead late in the first lap, and then he took off.
Plessinger won by about 6.5 seconds over Martin, Cooper, Savatgy, Sexton, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Michael Mosiman, Smith, Ferrandis, Nichols and Mosiman’s teammate Mitchell Harrison. Forkner went down late in the race and had to stop in the pits for repairs, ending up 18th in the moto.

Plessinger took the overall on the day with a 1-1 score over Cooper’s 4-3 for second overall and Martin’s 7-2 for third. The 14 points Maritn lost to Plessinger on the day push Plessinger out to a 49-point lead with four rounds (eight motos) left to run.
The series heads to Washougal, Washington, for round 9 this coming Saturday.
