Throwback Thursday: Dicing at the 1981 San Jose Mile
Larry Lawrence | May 3, 2018
In this week’s Throwback we rewind the calendar 37 years to May of 1981. Top 40 radio was playing songs like Sheena Easton’s “Morning Train (Nine to Five)”, “Just the Two of Us” by Grover Washington Jr. and “Kiss on My List” by Hall & Oates. Dallas was the top-rated show on TV and moviegoers were flocking to theaters to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. At the first of two San Jose Miles that season a group of riders battled for the lead in the main headed by Mike Kidd (72) followed by Jay Springsteen (9), Garth Brow (15) and Ricky Graham (41). “Springer” would get by Kidd to take a dominating victory over brothers Gary and Hank Scott. Kidd would go on to win that year’s AMA Grand National Championship.
