15th Dash for Cash Will be the Last
This is a press release from American Flat Track…
Daytona Beach, FL (May 24, 2018) – A thick and wide pea-gravel cushion, multiple fast lines, big crowds, a county fair vibe, tons of history and close racing every year make the Indian Motorcycle Lima Half-Mile on June 30 a can’t miss event on the 2018 American Flat Track schedule.
This year’s race will once again feature the annual George Roeder Memorial Dash For Cash – although with a couple of twists. One, this will be the final year for the fan- and rider-favorite Dash. And two, not only will riders have a chance to win extra money, fans will as well.
“2018 will be the 15th annual Dash for Cash,” said George Roeder II, “and we believe this is the right time to announce that this will be the last year for it. Since this will be the last race in memory of my father, we would like to find some way to give back to the fans who’ve made this race possible over the years.
“Our goal is to raise $10,000. We’ll have a 6-rider lineup for the race, as in previous years, and those six riders will receive a total of $5,000. The remaining $5,000 will be given back to the fans who, let’s face it, make this sport and race possible. Every person who purchases a pre-sale ticket to the Lima Half-Mile will be entered into a drawing. We will then randomly choose six people from that list to come down from the stands and, one by one, choose who they think will win the Dash. Once all six fans have been paired up with a racer they feel will win the Dash, the Dash will be run, and the six fans will get the same prize money the six riders get.
“In order to save time at the race, fans participating will be chosen after the Dash pre-sale cut-off date of June 22 and notified to make sure they’ll be in attendance. [Non-Dash pre-sale tickets will be available until the day before the race.] Once the six fans have been notified and have committed, the order of who chooses first can be done immediately before the Dash – so there will still be plenty of pre-Dash excitement.”
“The George Roeder dash for cash has been a part of the Lima tradition for a very long time,” said event promoter and reigning AFT Twins champion Jared Mees. “The Roeders are very popular in the flat track world, especially in their home state of Ohio, and I think this is the perfect way to go out – by giving back to the fans who’ve supported flat track racing. I want to personally thank them, American Flat Track and especially the Roeders. I look forward to seeing everyone on the last Saturday in June!”
