Barker’s Performance has full exhaust systems for the Suzuki DR-Z 400 that can provide performance gains across the entire power curve. The system includes a full exhaust system, a billet clamp (silver billet clamp is standard, black is available) to secure the exhaust to the frame, and a choice of a standard straight billet tip or a turn-down tip. The one with the turn-down tip does not require any modification to the bike, while the standard billet tip will require an aftermarket turn signal.

A third party, LaBaron’s Powersports, completed the dyno testing for their new exhaust with a K&N air filter on an otherwise stock machine. After tuning (jetting settings included with your purchase) and increasing the air flow, Barker’s says that the full exhaust system achieved a solid 5-hp increase. The megaphone design on their pipe is such that Barker’s anticipates even further gains on larger built bikes.

As with all Barker’s Performance exhaust systems, the new Suzuki DR-Z400 full exhaust system is hand tig-welded in Michigan. The exhaust features a sleek brushed-aluminum can outfitted with the a Barker’s Performance tag in the color of your choice: black, blue, red or yellow.

Here’s what Barker’s Performance said about the dyno test:

Testing was completed at LaBaron’s Powersports by Alex Galeczka. Alex got right to work, clocking 30hp on the bike after being fully warmed up and putting down some pulls. After establishing the baseline runs on the DR-Z, we were ready to install our pipe and see where we sat. With our pipe alone and no tuning, we yielded 2-hp gain peak, however the Barker’s DR-Z pipe pulled much farther into the revs and was a solid 3-hp gain up in the higher rpm.

We found that at idle and just off idle in the 0-20% throttle range our pipe was running extremely lean, though at wide-open throttle we were a bit too rich. After a few jets and shimming the needle, we saw even further gains. When we opened up the airbox by slotting the snorkel opening, the bike really came alive. After tuning and increasing the airflow, we were able to achieve a solid 5-hp gain. Even better, the gains were very broad and strong throughout the entire rpm range. Second-gear wheelies became a breeze compared to stock!

The sound of the exhaust system with the turn-down tip came out just right. It’s a bit loud when on the throttle hard from behind, but, at cruising, quiets right down and would not be considered obnoxious for the rider.

The system fits all DR-Z models (E, S, SM) from 1999 to current.
