2018 Las Vegas 250cc Supercross Results: Ever since the 250cc Supercross finale became a points-paying East/West Shootout, no points lead has felt safe in Vegas. But that said, to win the East title, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne needed to finish 12th or better in Vegas if TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith won the main event, and to win out West, Monster Energy/Yamalube Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger needed to finish 10th or better if Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo won the main. With both coasts crowding the starting gate for the main event, neither of those results were a given.
TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Shane McElrath got out front early to start the main event, and he was dealing with all kinds of pressure from GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin for the first half of the race, but Martin couldn’t get a pass to stick.

Adam Cianciarulo took his first win of 2018 at the Vegas finale, but came up 2 points shy of the title for the second year in a row. PHOTOGRAPHY BY HOPPENWORLD
Osborne and Plessinger started just outside the top 10, and with the weight of the championship on their shoulders, they didn’t move up through the field like we’ve seen them do all year. But just past the halfway point, Cianciarulo caught Martin as Martin was trying to get by McElrath and then went by them both. Once in the lead, Cianciarulo controlled the main event, taking his first win of the year.
Cianciarulo did what he had to do to give himself a shot at the 250cc West title, but Plessinger did his job as well and survived a couple near-crashes to end up finishing just behind Osborne in eighth place. McElrath’s teammate Smith found his way up to second in the final few laps and just held off McElrath for the spot, while Cianciarulo’s teammate Joey Savatgy zapped Martin on the last lap for fourth. Martin ended up fifth.

Osborne successfully defended his first championship, and Plessinger got his first-ever professional title, while, for the second year in a row, Cianciarulo lost his 250cc championship by two points.
