Throwback Thursday: Kenny Roberts Wins Santa Fe Short Track: In this week’s Throwback we go way back to August 9, 1974. That night at Santa Fe Speedway in Hinsdale, Illinois, defending AMA Grand National Champion Kenny Roberts took victory in the Santa Fe Short Track National in front of a full house of 7500 fans. Roberts, riding his factory Yamaha battled past Mike Kidd and then Mike Gerald to score his second national win in a row. He’d just come off a victory in the road race national at Laguna Seca. The next week Roberts would win at the Peoria TT.

The season pretty much went that way for Roberts and he easily earned his second national title in a row later that season. Holding the trophy is Miss Camel, Lynn Griffis, perhaps the most recognizable trophy girl in the history of AMA Grand National racing.
