However, it appeared that American Cody Webb was going to come leave Spain with another victory after topping the first two main events, but everything unraveled for the FMF KTM rider in the third and final race of the night. A couple of crashes on the same lap resulted in an eighth-place finish in the race and third overall on the night.
Red Bull KTM’s Jonny Walker was second overall with a 3-3-3.
The good news for Webb, however, is that he still maintains the championship points lead over Blazusiak, 202-185. Husqvarna’s Bill Bolt is third with 169 points. Bolt was fourth overall on the night with 4-4-2 results.
“The first two races went very well,” Webb said. “I felt like I was riding smooth and consistent and came away with the win in each race. Unfortunately, my opportunity to take my third overall victory came undone in the third and final race. I was running second but when I came around to the matrix section I made a big mistake. I just didn’t get the angle right when I lifted the front wheel and ended up falling off the side of the track. I panicked a little and then pushed too hard to regroup and ended up having a huge crash shortly afterwards. It messed my bike up a bit and I couldn’t ride properly. After winning the first two races I was disappointed to let the overall win slip away like that.”
American Colton Haaker (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) went 5-6-5 on the night.
Just one more race is left in the 2018 championship, which takes place in Lidkoping, Sweden, March 31.
