Throwback Thursday: Supercross Start in the Meadowlands
Larry Lawrence | February 15, 2018
In this week’s Throwback we dive back 29 years to the AMA Supercross event at Giant Stadium in May of 1989. A couple of locals topped the top-40 music charts that week, with Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” just edging out Bon Jovi’s “I’ll be There for You”. On the track, Yamaha’s Micky Dymond (23) got a great start in his heat race at the Meadowlands. Here Dymond leads Ron Tichenor (11), Jeff Stanton (7), Shaun Kalos (24) and others as the pack charges into kicker-packed a turn. Honda factory rider Stanton got around Dymond and went on to not only win this Heat race, but the main event as well later that night. Stanton also went on to win that year’s AMA Supercross title.
