Black Dog Cycle Works’ Ultimate Skid Plates Drew in the Crowds at the 2017 KTM Adventure Rider Rally.
The 2017 KTM Adventure Rider Rally was held in Crested Butte, Colorado for the second time in three years. With nearly 500 attendees including a massive staff of KTM event planners, celebrity riders, world-class racers and helpful technicians, it was a popular destination, to say the least. On top of that, nearly 30 vendors from the Adventure Motorcycling industry showcased their latest adventure-motorcycle gear and services.
We had a quick chat with Black Dog Cycle Works’ Kurt Forget inside their booth at the KTM Adventure Rider Rally to see why they made the trip, what kind of cool new stuff they have and what they think the KTM Adventure Rider Rally is all about.
What product is drawing the most interest from the attendees at the KTM Rally?
Kurt Forget: Our Ultimate Skid Plates are definitely drawing the most attention here. We have those for the 1090s, 1190s and 1290 KTMs. They are very popular and also include a side stand-relocation kit. It’s really important to get the side stand off the engine cases on those big bikes. We’ve also expanded into the smaller-bike market and now have skid plates for the 450s and 500s, as well as the KTM 690s and all the Husqvarna equivalents, like the 501s and 701s.
We are seeing quite a few smaller bikes at these events, but we know almost all our large-bike customers own a small bike, as well. They might not bring them to this event, but they’re sitting in their garage.
There are a lot of products out there for those bikes, but ours are some of the only true armor skid plates we’ve seen. They’re bomber because that’s what we do!
Why should riders consider attending the KTM Adventure Rider Rally?
Kurt Forget: It’s just a great event. This is actually our eighth year and it’s honestly one of our favorite events of the year. We really look forward to it. The people here are awesome and they always pick great venues with good riding all over the place. They have tours, you can meet factory racers and for anyone who likes orange, it’s an event not to miss—it’s a blast.CN
