Four-time WorldSBK Champion hospitalized with serious injuries, announces permanent retirement.
Briton Carl Fogarty has suffered 11 broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken shoulder while racing at the DirtQuake dirt track event in Norfolk, England, at the weekend.
After winning five out of his six race starts, the four-time WorldSBK Champion crashed in the Hooligan race at 70mph on a Triumph Scrambler and was airlifted to hospital. Initially, the prognosis was only two broken ribs but was later upgraded to 11 following a further examination in hospital.
“It was going great, then I had a little crash. Two broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a broken shoulder blade. Nothing really too bad!” Fogarty told British publication MCN.
Fogarty also quashed any thoughts people had about his possible racing future, saying, “Thanks to everyone for their best wishes, except Mrs F, who hates me right now. I promise I’ll never do another race again.”
