Angel Nieto Seriously Injured in Quad Crash

Thirteen-time World Champion Angel Nieto has suffered serious head injuries following a quad crash on the Spanish Island of Ibiza yesterday.
Nieto was involved in a collision with another vehicle and was transferred to the Polyclinic Our Lady of the Rosary clinic at Ibiza where he underwent surgery to reduce the swelling on his brain and was placed in a medically-induced coma.
Nieto is the most successful Spanish rider in the history of world championship racing, having taken 13 titles in 50cc, 80cc, and 125cc competition.
In what has been somewhat of a theme for 2017, Nieto’s is the latest injury for a retired world champion, after Max Biaggi suffered thoracic trauma and multiple rib fractures in a supermoto crash in Italy, and Carl Fogarty suffered major injuries following a dirt track crash in the UK recently.
2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden passed away in May following a collision with a car while cycling in Italy, however, the Kentucky rider was still active in racing the WorldSBK Championship.
