Randy Goss stands atop the podium after winning the AMA Grand National at the Ascot Park Half-Mile in Gardena, California, in May of 1986. Goss raced his Harley Dealers XR750 to victory over the Honda of Ronnie Jones and Harley-Davidson factory rider Scott Parker, who took third.
Goss was battling back from a leg injury and earned his first national victory in over a year. It would also prove to be Goss’ final AMA Grand National win.
It was fitting that the two-time AMA Grand National Champion (1980 and 1983) final win would come at Ascot. It was the track where he enjoyed his greatest success, winning five nationals on the fabled circuit. Goss retired from racing after the 1986 season. He went on to become a NASCAR team crew chief and was later inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
