2017 Indonesia MXGP Results: The Indonesian round of the 2017 FIM World Motocross Championships – round two of the series – was met with rain and mud. The craggy mud made racing less about winning or losing and more about surviving.
The MX2 class was the first to take on the tough conditions, and unlike the MXGP class, the MX2 class actually got two shots at the track, although moto two was cut short because of the mud. (After that, the second MXGP moto was canceled altogether.)
Suzuki MX2 stalwart Jeremy Seewer snatched his first-ever overall win with a 1-2 score in the incredibly sticky mud of Pangkal Pinang, Indonesia.
“I’m really happy for my first GP win and I am really looking forward to the next rounds,” Seewer said.

TM-mounted Italian Samuele Bernardini could only muster 8th in the opening moto, but he got out front early and pulled away to win moto two; his 8-1 score placing him second overall on the day, just in front of LRT KTM’s Julien Lieber’s 3-4 score.
Due to the conditions, Lieber took over the points lead with his 3-4 score, while round-one winner (and points leader coming into round two in Indonesia) Pauls Jonass struggled in the mud to 14th in the first moto, and a 25th in moto two, dropping him to fifth in points.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Romain Febvre got the holeshot in the first (and as it turns out, the only) MXGP moto, but the track wasn’t kind to the 2015 World Champion. He ended up 15th. But in his second race for Wilvo Yamaha, Scotsman Shaun Simpson fought his way through the muck to take the win in moto one, which ended up also determining the overall positions for the day.
“It was good,” Simpson said. “I was able to make some good moves the first few laps and I was in the lead about halfway through the race!”

Simpson finished just over 7 seconds ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff. In third was Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Clement Desalle, who was closing in late in the moto and finished less than five seconds behind Coldenhoff.
Last week’s winner and red plate holder, Red Bull KTM’s Antonio Cairoli managed to hang on for fourth under the extreme conditions and maintains the points lead as the series heads to round three in Argentina in two weeks’ time.
