In this week’s Throwback we go back 20 years ago to the American round of the Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. It turned out to be an outstanding weekend for Castrol Honda ace John Kocinski. Here he celebrates one of the standout race weekends of his illustrious career.
The American from Little Rock, Arkansas, swept both legs of the Laguna event that year, becoming the first rider to sweep an entire World Superbike weekend at the circuit. In race one Kocinski held off Carl Fogarty by just 0.139 seconds. AMA Superbike regular Miguel Duhamel took third. It was the same order in race two, but in the second leg Kocinski had a more comfortable 4.862-second margin of victory.
Kocinski went on to win that year’s World Superbike Championship.
