Oakland Supercross News: There are a few big things going down as we inch closer to 2017’s last California supercross in Oakland this Saturday. The first big news is that two-time 250cc MX champ Jeremy Martin, of the GEICO Honda team, has announced that he won’t be able to race in Oakland, due to the concussion suffered last weekend in Arizona.

“Really bummed about missing Oakland this weekend,” Martin said on his Instagram page. “It was easily going to be one of my favorite races due to the soft conditions! Still in Concussion protocol. Doing everything in my power to be back for Dallas!”
Trey Canard also indicated on his Instagram page that he is back riding. He rode some last week as well, so we could see him on the track as early as this weekend’s race in Oakland, and almost definitely by next weekend’s race in Arlington, Texas, as it’s the closest to a “hometown” race that Canard gets every year, being from Oklahoma.

Rumors have been swirling that Dean Wilson will be making a switch to race for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team for the rest of 2017, on a bike that’s very similar to the one he raced for two years at Red Bull KTM. However, it may not happen this weekend, as Wilson was always planning to race the first five races on his privateer Yamahas, and it’s possible that he needs to finish off those five races before making the switch. Very likely that by Arlington, Texas, next weekend, the number-15 will be on a Husqvarna under the factory-team tent.
And finally, Honda’s Ken Roczen has delivered a few updates on his Instagram page as he is undergoing surgeries to fix his mangled left arm.
He says he’s had five surgeries now, as of this morning, and surgery number 6 is coming up on Friday. Then he gets to go home for 8 days before he heads back to the hospital for his final surgery to patch everything up. It sounds like if all goes well, Roczen can officially be considered to be “on the mend” after that. He also indicated that he had very limited movement in his hand and fingers, but with this latest surgery, he can almost make a fist. Things are getting better, for sure.
The Oakland race this Saturday is a daytime event, with track walk scheduled for 7:30 a.m., and then the “night show” beginning at 3:30 p.m., so make sure you check your listings and set your DVRs for 3:30-4:00 p.m. PST. It seems likely to be a mud race, so make sure you mount some rolloffs.
