2017 Oakland 450cc Supercross Results: A week ago, in Phoenix, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac was absolutely dominant in the main event, taking the holeshot and just flat out taking off. This week, in Oakland, was entirely different. Tomac struggled noticeably, and got a mid-pack start in the main event. Then he went to work, passing his way through the field to eventually take the lead with four laps to go and take his second win in a row.

Defending champ and points leader Ryan Dungey actually had the early lead in the main event, and he was soon joined up front by fast qualifier and heat-race winner Cooper Webb. Webb looked to be chasing Dungey down at one point, but eventually lost touch with the Red Bull KTM rider and then fell into the clutches of the charging Tomac, who made his move by Webb with seven laps left to go.

Over the final few laps, Tomac quickly chased Dungey down, due at least in large part to a rhythm section he was hitting that everyone else had stopped jumping the way he was. Once he caught Dungey, he bided his time, then struck. Once in front, he pulled away to the victory over Dungey and Webb, earning his first podium of his 450cc career.

Behind them came Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson and Honda’s Cole Seely, followed at a distance by Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM teammates Davi Millsaps and Blake Baggett, then Webb’s teammate Chad Reed, Dungey’s teammate Marvin Musquin (who at one point pulled off the track while favoring his left arm) and Anderson’s new teammate Dean Wilson.
