The Archies’ “Sugar Sugar” topped the charts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first walk on the moon and Joe Namath guaranteed a New York Jets victory in the Super Bowl. Meanwhile in the motorcycle racing world the Harley-Davidson KR was about to come to an end of its 17-year production run, to be replaced by the XR.
The KR was very fast piece of heavy metal and Dan Haaby proves in this photo from the 1969 Santa Fe TT National, that KR’s could in fact fly.
Santa Fe Speedway was a legendary track in suburban Chicago that hosted a weekly racing program for years that provided a tidy side income to a lot of racers.
In March, we’ll once again get to see the big flat track twins in the air at the Daytona TT.
