2017 Supercross Teams Rundown: The opening round of the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is just a few weeks away. The gate drops January 7 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, where Ryan Dungey will begin defending the number-one plate in the 450SX class. A new champion will be crowned in the 250SX West Championship now that the 2016 West champ, Cooper Webb, has moved up to the 450SX class. In the East, defending champion Malcolm Stewart has yet announced his intentions for the 2017 season, neither has his older brother, James.
2017 Supercross Teams Rundown
James Stewart, a two-time (2007, ’09) AMA Supercross Champion, said last month that he’s not ready to retire but has been finding it difficult to line up sponsors for 2017. He has been seen riding a Yamaha in his home state of Florida lately, but no official word has emerged from the Stewart camp as to if he’ll be on the starting gate at Anaheim I or not.
Most of the major teams are locked and loaded, though the usual question as to which 250 rider will race which coast is still up in the air. That question is usually answered when the riders take to the track Saturday morning for practice at A1. We could guess, but we’ll just wait and see what happens come January 7.
Below is the latest rundown of most of the major teams that will follow the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series circuit, including another look at the 2017 SX schedule, the 2017 rider numbers and latest entry list for both the 250SX West and 450SX classes for Anaheim I.
