Giant Loop Gas Bag Fuel-Safe Bladder: PRODUCT REVIEW
Jesse Ziegler | November 9, 2016
Riders use a smorgasbord of containers to carry extra fuel on long rides: empty oil bottles, laundry-detergent bottles, etc. Giant Loop, however, makes a purpose-built container. Giant Loop’s Gas Bag Fuel-Safe Bladder transports one gallon of fuel and collapses down for space-saving storage when empty. The Gas Bag consists of a collapsible welded film and ballistic nylon reinforced container. It isn’t a long-term storage container for gas. When not carrying fuel, the Gas Bag rolls up or packs flat for easy transport. Each Fuel-Safe Bladder is individually pressure tested and made in the USA by Fuel Safe, a leading racing-fuel-containment manufacturer based in Redmond, Oregon.
List Price: $119 Gas Bag only. (Also comes in kit form.)
Standout Feature: The Gas Bag can be a lifesaver out on the trail and is also great for transferring fuel from one motorcycle to another.
Rider Analysis: I’m that rider that has tried every method to haul extra gas on long rides, but I’ve ditched them all for the Giant Loop Gas Bag. For adventure rides, it easily straps to the bike (there are plenty of attachment points) or drops into a side box.
I know the rules say not to transport gas unless you are on a closed course, but as soon as there is room in my gas tank, I dump the contents of the Gas Bag into the bike (I don’t wait for it to run out). For off-roading, I fill the Gas Bag about half full so it conforms to the pocket on my riding vest or backpack. With a full gallon of gas, it is best strapped to something. An empty Gas Bag doesn’t take up much room and tucks away nicely until it’s needed. Filling the Gas Bag is easier with two people. The opening isn’t very large, and holding a gas can and the Gas Bag at the same time is a special talent. Dumping a full Gas Bag into your bikes gas tank is a mess unless you are very careful and deliberate. It isn’t a quick-fill system, so take your time and don’t squeeze the bag or you’ll have fuel everywhere. The price might seem high, but the Gas Bag is durable and a pretty darn safe way to transport fuel.
Giant Loop is serious about you knowing the purpose of the Gas Bag and so are we. You should check out their disclaimer at their website under “Terms and Conditions.”CN
