New Lap Record For Jorge Lorenzo
Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha Racing) has set the fastest lap ever of the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli to take the record of the most pole positions in MotoGP history with 64 career poles.
Lorenzo uncorked a stunning 1:31.868s lap in the dying minutes of Q2, the first rider ever into the 1:31s in a lap the Majorcan described as “the lap of my life”. The lap easily eclipsed his previous lap record of 1:32.416s, set last year on Bridgestone tires.
Second went to home hero Valentino Rossi with a 1:32.216s. Rossi fluctuated in the top six all session and had his first lap into second place canceled for exceeding the track limits but responded on the very next circuit, securing a front row spot in front of last round’s maiden winner, Maverick Vinales on the Ecstar Suzuki with a 1:32.381.
World Championship leader Marc Marquez took fourth with a 1:32.443. Ducati’s factory test rider Michelle Pirro was the best of the red brigade in fifth with a 1:32.467.
