Stars Cross: Tomac, Cairoli Take on Monster Energy MXGP of the Americas
Press Release | August 4, 2016
This is a press release from Charlotte Motor Speedway…
Concord, NC (August 4, 2016) – Eli Tomac has won multiple high-profile races this summer against America’s best, but when the 23-year-old American sensation takes to The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the exhilarating Monster Energy MXGP of the Americas on Sept. 2-3, he’ll meet Europe’s biggest stars, including six-time MXGP World Champion Tony Cairoli.
Tomac is one of the United States’ most accomplished motocross and supercross standouts, so his addition to the Monster Energy MXGP of the Americas boosts the star power for the first-of-its-kind event. This season, Eli – the son of legendary mountain biker John Tomac – has won one Supercross and two Outdoor Motocross races in his first year as a member of the highly successful Monster Energy Kawasaki team. The Cortez, Colorado, native has the will to win and the equipment to help get him up front at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, but Tomac will have to compete on a brand-new course against a new lineup of competitors.
One of Tomac’s toughest challengers will be Cairoli, an Italian who’s a true measuring stick for how well U.S. riders like Tomac can handle an MXGP course. Cairoli, a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider, is MXGP’s answer to NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson: a world-class competitor capable of beating his rivals on any track.
Two days of high-flying, high-speed showdowns between stars like Tomac and Cairoli await fans who visit the challenging one-mile SuperCourse at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The full-throttle action doesn’t stop on Saturday, either.
Motocross enthusiasts who buy a two-day MXGP ticket for $69 plus tax can choose between a FREE two-day paddock pass or a Sunday Ride Day voucher that grants them riding access to the MXGP course. A limited number of ride vouchers are available. Riders looking to secure their spot on the same circuit raced on by Tomac and Cairoli should call 1-800-455-FANS (3267) or by visiting http://www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/tickets/mxgp/.
