This is a press release from AMA Supermoto…
San Diego, CA (August 2, 2016) – The AMA Supermoto National Championship Series returns to action this weekend, August 6-7, for round four of the series set to be held in conjunction with the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy for the Grand Prix Trois-Riviéres in Canada. Sanctioned by CMA, Trois-Riviéres also marks the second and final FIM North America round of the series, joining the Loudon, New Hampshire round from June 17-18.
As the season moves past the halfway mark, another action-packed weekend is slated with two days of racing, kicking off with the Amateur National Main and the Pro Brawl on Saturday, August 6. A day later, the Pro classes will battle for the win and points for the ultimate prize – the championship. Leading the way in the Pro Open class is defending champ Gage McAllister, the Californian holding a healthy 41-point lead over RSR KTM teammate Dustin Hoffman. It has been a near perfect season for McAllister who comes to Canada with five race wins to his credit. The only time he has finished off the top step of the podium was at the Loudon where he finished second to teammate Eric Stump in race one.
McAllister will be looking to add to his pile of wins at the series first-ever event at Trois-Riviéres, but there are a lot of hungry riders looking for their first win, including AMA Pro Flat Track rider and USA Pro Supermoto Sponsor Relations Manager Johnny Lewis. Lewis makes his debut amongst the series regulars aboard a Fat Boy Racing Yamaha.
“I couldn’t be more excited to make my debut in the AMA Supermoto National Championship Series this weekend,” Lewis said. “We will be racing in front of a world audience with the FIA World Rallycross Championship, which is very exciting for me and the Supermoto series as a whole.
“I have been able to put together an amazing program for this event, teaming up with AMA National Supermoto Lites rookie Dallas Daniels and his already formed Fat Boy Racing Yamaha program. I’ll be bringing in a few personal sponsors including LifeProof and WP USA who has equipped me with a set of WP Cone Valve forks and a WP Trax shock for this event. Coming off a span of top-10 finishes in the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship, I’m looking to bring that momentum to this series and put myself right in the middle of the Supermoto regulars.”
The race for the Pro Lites Championship is tight with Lean Six Sigma Racing’s Josh Jackson leading the way by three points over Welsh Racing/DDR Yamaha’s Cameron Welsh. Jackson got some redemption at Sturgis for his disappointing finish at round two in Loudon, New Hampshire, and took the red plate back from Welsh. Sitting third, 13 points behind Jackson, and not out of the hunt is defending Pro Lites Champion Nicky Reimer on the Tri-County Powersports Husqvarna.
In the National Amateur class, Monarch Honda’s Malcolm Barker looks to carry his momentum from Sturgis where he scored his first-ever National Supermoto win as well as build on his points lead in the championship.
