World Superbike first came to Laguna Seca in 1995 and since then there have been 26 races at the Monterey, California circuit and surprisingly only three Americans have won races there. The first American to win a Laguna World Superbike race was John Kocinski, who raced a factory Ducati 916 to victory in race one in 1996. This photo shows Kocinski (11) getting the jump on the field en route to winning the race over fellow Ducati riders Troy Corser (2) and Neil Hodgson (9). Since Kocinski’s first win at Laguna Seca, the only other Americans to win the WSBK round there were Ben Bostrom and Colin Edwards. American fans are hoping that Nicky Hayden can follow in the footsteps of Kocinski, Bostrom and Edwards and become the fourth rider to win a World Superbike race at Laguna this weekend.
