In this week’s Throwback Thursday we go back 33 years ago with Jeff Heino (13) leading a group of riders in the AMA Superbike race at Riverside Intl. Raceway on April 17, 1983. Also visible is David Aldana (40), Roberto Pietri (11) and Wayne Rainey (behind No. 40 Aldana). In spite of decent reviews and a stable platform for a race bike, the Suzuki GS750ES Heino raced was rare in AMA Superbike competition with the Honda VF750 dominating the grid along with a good number of Kawasaki KZ750s and GPz750s. 1983 was the first year AMA Superbike went to 750cc multi-cylinder machines. Everyone who still had 1000s Superbikes had to move up to race the AMA’s Formula 1 class.
