Motocross: Will Ryan Villopoto Return To Defend MX Title?

East Rutherford, New Jersey (April 26, 2014) – During the past few weeks there have been several rumors making the rounds suggesting that Ryan Villopoto might not attempt to defend his number-one plate in the outdoor series. Cycle News spoke with Monster Energy Kawasaki team manager Dan Fahie about these rumors this morning in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where round 16 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series will get underway at MetLife Stadium. Villopoto is just an 18th-place away from clinching his fourth straight Supercross title.
Fahie confirmed that Villopoto is indeed considering sitting out the upcoming National Motocross Series, but would not confirm the reason other than to say it was heath related, similar to last year when RV skipped the Motocross of Nations to have knee surgery.
Fahie added that Villopoto has been dealing with a couple of nagging medical issues and RV and the team were weighing their options.
“We are just like a business, Monster Energy Kawasaki, and we need to make sure we take care of our interests,” said Fahie, referring to Villopoto.
