Nearing the halfway point of the series, the tour stopped in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a place it hasn’t been to for ten years. Team Monster Energy Amsoil Babbitts Kawasaki riders Tyler Bowers and Zach Ames each raced to overall wins over the two-night event.
Bowers took Friday’s win with a 1-3 in the two finals over his teammate Ames (2-5) and privateer and last year’s series runner up Jeff Gibson (9-4). TiLube Tuf Racing Honda’s Jacob Hayes (4-10) and Oklahoma’s Cory Green (3-11) rounded out the top five.
The points leader coming into Milwaukee, Zach Ames, won Saturday nights overall with a 2-3 in the two finals and now leaves the cold upper Midwest with the red plate once again as the tour heads to a warmer climate out West for the next five events.
“My goal is to come in here and to get as many wins as I can and to stay on the box,” Ames commented. “If you are winning and up front every weekend, the points will come.”
Ames has been real consistent as of late and realizes he has what it takes to possibly win his first Arenacross title. “You can call me mister consistent I guess right now but I’m just doing my job,” Ames added. “I want to take down Bowers but he’s going to be tough and he’ll put up a fight and he’s not done. He’s not even close to being done and it’s going to be a long season. I’ve known I’ve had it for years and I’m just happy to be up here with him battling for a championship.”
TiLube Tuf Racing Pabst Blue Ribbon’s Kyle Regal finished second overall on Saturday with a 1-7 score and won his first Arenacross main event in the process. Regal, a newcomer to Arenacross, is still learning the ropes, but sits seventh in the points and is aimed at making a run for the title.
Another Arenacross newcomer, Jacob Hayes, had a decent weekend in Milwaukee by getting fourth overall Friday (4-10) and tenth overall Saturday (15-2). Hayes was going for the win in Saturday’s first main event when he and Bowers collided at the end of the whoop section, sending Bowers flying off the track and leaving Hayes with a damaged bike.
“He got in my face after that, but we’ll go into next weekend and see how it goes,” Hayes said of the incident.
Ames leads Bowers in the points 208 to 202. Hayes holds down third with 177 and Mike McDade is fourth with 168.
