Editorial: Troubling Times
Paul Carruthers | February 7, 2013
Even the most ardent non-Blake Young fan can’t argue the simple fact that the two-time AMA Superbike Championship runner-up should be getting himself ready for another assault at the AMA Superbike title. Even though he stumbled a bit last year, over the past two seasons he’s still one of only a very few riders in AMA racing who has shown that he’s at least capable of beating Josh Hayes. And even though his 2012 season didn’t live up to expectations – his and everyone else’s – let’s not forget that when they added up the points at the end of the season, he still had the second most.
Let’s not forget that Young won seven races in 2011 and three in 2012. That’s 10 in the past two years. The dominant Hayes has won 17 over the same time span. Tommy Hayden, another without a ride, won eight races in 2010 and 2011. And the rest of them… you can count their combined wins on one hand.
