Archives: Looking Back At Loretta’s
Larry Lawrence | August 3, 2011
All this week motocross riders from all across the nation will be in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, racing for national titles at the 30th Annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Amsoil, at the Loretta Lynn Ranch. Loretta Lynn’s has become one of the must-see events in all of American racing and one of the few amateur events that attracts national attention in the motorcycle racing community.
One of the endearing things about Loretta Lynn’s is the fact that the same track has been used since the championship began in 1982. Naturally there have been slight changes and modifications to the track over the years, but the same piece of land that hosted Ron Lechien when he won the 125cc A Stock Youth title in 1982, or in ’92 when Ricky Carmichael won the 85cc Stock 12-13 class, or Josh Grant’s 2002 victory in 85cc Modified 14-15, is the very Terra Firma that amateur hopefuls will be racing on this week.
